KUALA LUMPUR: Scientex Bhd is
teaming up with Japan's Futamura Chemical Co. Ltd to build a biaxially
oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film manufacturing plant.
Scientex said on Friday its unit Scientex Packaging Film Sdn Bhd had inked a strategic alliance agreement with Futamura to undertake the project and also grow the consumer packaging market.
Under the agreement, both parties would enter a collaborative alliance through Scientex Great Wall Sdn Bhd (SGW). Futamura would be entitled to purchase up to 20% of SGW's paid-up within the next five years. The initial subscription is 5% of the paid-up capital of SGW.
Futamura will have the right to 30% of the production capacity of the plant of about 1,500 tonnes per month of BOPP film for sale and distribution in Japan.
The strategic alliance would be to build a new world class BOPP film
manufacturing plant adhering to stringent Japanese standards and quality
with lower Southeast Asian manufacturing costs in Malaysia.
The plan is to jointly develop and grow the consumer packaging markets in Japan and Southeast Asia.
