Broadcom senior vice-president (global operations) Ooi Boon Chye said Avago Technologies Ltd completed its acquisition of Broadcom Corp on Feb 1, 2016.
The combined entity, which is now called Broadcom Ltd, will have an annual revenue of more than US$15bil and market value of about US$77bil.
Ooi said following the acquisition, Avago Technologies (M) is anticipating more activities in Penang that would offer more job opportunities in product and test development, supply chain planning, logistics and procurement.
He said Avago Technologies (M) has significant manufacturing operations in Penang through its outsource partners comprising multinational and local listed companies.
“These partners will also be growing very significantly in 2016 and 2017 as we add device testing, wafer probing, wafer bumping, package assembly, wafer level chip scale packaging and wafer level ball grid arrays operations,” he said.
Ooi said Penang was an important and expanding site for Broadcom with operations in the state including research and development, new product introduction, product engineering and test development engineering and IC Rel Lab.
“If I was to put a number, I would say the investment that we are placing into Penang will amount to US$250mil in a variety of things for the next 12 months,” he said.
Ooi said Avago Technologies would be opening a warehouse which is expected to begin operations in May next year in Batu Kawan Industrial Park.
“We will ship from Penang a significant portion of our US$15 billion revenue and the warehouse operation will also add to the freight forwarding ecosystem in Penang for our customers,” he said.
