KUCHING: Members of the Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation Owners Association (Soppoa) reaffirmed their commitment towards compliance and certification under the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standard for the industry in Sarawak. This was among the points highlighted during its sixth Annual General Meeting held yesterday in Kuching.
“The MSPO represents Malaysia’s standard for palm oil to the international market which has met with all the criteria and standards of the various ministries and agencies in Malaysia on environmental sustainability and other conservation standards,” the association said.
“As such, Soppoa members have taken steps to meet the standards required for MSPO qualification which will enable our palm oil to be marketed internationally.”
While the MSPO is still a voluntary requirement, Soppoa said its members have jointly agreed to all meet the criteria for MSPO qualification to assure the international market that the industry is serious in its commitment to the sustainable practices for the industry here.
Soppoa also thanked all federal and state ministries, agencies and organisations that have collaborated with SOPPOA members over the course of the year and look forward to more collaborative efforts in the coming year
