Airline association formed today

 BY BILQIS BAHARI - 13 APRIL 2016 @ 3:23 PM KUALA LUMPUR: An airline association is believed to have been formed today, consisting of three Malaysian-based carriers, Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), AirAsia Bhd and Malindo Airways. Business Times learned that a meeting was held by the three airlines as well as four other carriers leading to the establishment of the association. The association will be called the Association of Malaysian Air Carriers (AMAC). The members are believed to be MAB and its turboprop unit FireFly, MASWings, AirAsia and its sister airline, AirAsia X Bhd, Malindo Air and Berjaya Air Sdn Bhd. Details of the association are not yet known as at the time of writing. However, it is believed a press statement will be released later today. On Monday, Business Times reported that AirAsia Group chief executive, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has called for the establishment of an airline association in Malaysia as a platform for local players to discuss non-competing issues faced by the industry. 1469 reads Malaysia Airlines Bhd, AirAsia Bhd and Malindo Airways are among those in the newly formed airline association.
