Myvi

http://www.automachi.com/2017/07/featured-3sz-ve/

uphill genting

put in d3 when start going upilll till u arrive a very sloopy near the temple there change to d2 or L.drive steadily dun t force rev your engine rpm to avoid overheat n break water pump. coming down put in d2 or l all the way till genting premium outlet after that use d3 .

My car only gt P , R , N , D , L  , where is the D3 D2 and stuff ?
*
if u have p r n d l ,then use d only till the sloopy temple there change L till up . going down go many bump so use L till place not so many bump change D till genting premium outlet u can use D until down. Remember don t rev your engine kao kao maintain rpm around 3-4k when going up do not exceed 4k rpm

To get the Genting fr Penang, you would need to drive to KL then use the KL-Genting highway up. THat's the easiest route. Or u can use the North South expressway and exit near to Batang Kali, this route is rather windy.

exora

A Turbocharged Minivan – 2013 Proton Exora Bold Review

Engine: 1.6L CamPro CFE DOHC I4 Turbo
Year: 2013
Drive train: Front Wheel Drive
Transmission: 6-speed CVT Automatic
Second hand value (2017): ~RM40,000

This particular Exora has a rather interesting story to begin with. According to the owner, this car was originally a daily driver for his late grandfather who was a diabetic with an amputated left leg below the knee. He could get in to the driver’s seat without any assistance and head off to wherever he wished. OKU friendly is what this car is. It still has the disabled sticker so this was my first time driving a car with an OKU sticker. I have to say it felt as if people were nicer to me on the road.

The Exora Bold doesn’t draw attention to you. And if you don’t know what the CFE badge stands for (Charged Fuel Efficiency), you wouldn’t even know it was turbocharged until you drive it. Let’s explore more on the turbocharged CamPro engine shall we.

Campro CFE (Charged Fuel Efficiency)

The turbocharger (right in the middle) is not there to give you “braaaaap sutututu” kind of performance. It’s there to churn out an extra 28 hp from the 1.6 litre CamPro engine to carry the added weight around. This CamPro block has a shorter stroke than the standard Campro but with the same bore size.

As usual, I shall use my own car as a comparison. The 2007 Persona comes with a standard 1.6 litre CamPro engine. There is no CPS, VVT, IAFM, or CFE*.

Each CamPro variation has its own strengths and weaknesses but for now let’s just compare the power outputs.

Standard CamPro 1.6IAFM CamPro 1.6CPS CamPro 1.6CFE CamPro 1.6VVT CamPro 1.6
Maximum Power Output110hp109hp125hp138hp107hp

*IAFM= Integrated Air Fuel Module; CPS = Cam Profile Shift; CFE = Charge Fuel Efficiency; VVT = Variable Valve Timing

2007 Proton Persona 1.6 (Auto)2013 Proton Exora Bold (Auto)
Maximum Power Output110hp138hp
Kerb Weight1190kg1486kg
Power per unit tonne92.43hp/tonne92.87hp/tonne

So the CamPro CFE in an Exora gives a little bit more power per unit tonne than the standard Persona with a standard Campro. The turbocharger is there to help carry the added weight around. Will we see second hand CM Personas and Gen 2s with CFE engine swaps in the future? It won’t make a significant difference but let’s check back in a few years time.

Describing The Exora Bold

The Exora Bold is a practical turbocharged minivan with subtle styling. It’s not a high-performance car and doesn’t pretend to be one. It doesn’t look as docile as a Nissan Grand Livina either. Hence the ‘Bold’ in Exora Bold. It doesn’t try too hard to look quick and I appreciate that.

It even has double exhaust tips but doesn’t flaunt it. In a world where even Mercedes puts fake chrome muffler tips on its cars, this is something to be proud of.

It’s like the normal looking father of four who could beat your ass in an arm wrestle but chooses to wear loose fitting short sleeved button up shirts, plain jeans, old man glasses, and flip flops to tone down his presence in public. I would reserve the term “wolf in sheep’s clothing” for the Lotus Carlton, the Volvo 850 T-5R, or the Ford Transit with Jaguar XJ220 Engine. The Exora is not a high-performance car, let alone a crazy one like the XJ220 transit.

The only ‘rice’ elements fresh from the factory are the smoked taillights and spoiler. But they’re fine really. It’s not as bad as the 2003 Hyundai Accent with the big wing or Impreza S201.

What Is It Like To Drive?

The interior feels like an upgrade from the CM Persona. It has a nicer steering wheel and nicer seats. The steering wheel rattles at around 110kmh similar to most CM Personas. The steering is hydraulic and I like the way it handled. It did grip well through twisty highway ramps. Although taller than a standard saloon, it didn’t feel as lofty as a big SUV (eg. Honda CRV).

It has a turbocharger that you can hear whistle from around 2500rpm onward. As mentioned earlier, it’s there to help carry around the bigger body of the Exora. Fuel consumption is similar to that of the 2007 Persona with the Standard 1.6L Campro. Applying my usual driving style, it did manage 9.0-10.0 L/100km or 10.52km/l.

The 6-speed CVT Automatic feels fine once you’ve taken off. There is a lag in throttle response but I believe that has more to do with the electronic throttle control. It comes with a step auto button, similar to that of the Proton Saga FLX when the CVT was first introduced in the Proton line-up. A rather useless feature, it is no longer present in newer Proton models with CVT automatic transmission.

The gear shifter has that unique squiggly layout which reminded me of the first time I drove a Toyota Hilux (a company car). The indicator stalk, as most Protons are made, is on the left-hand side.

I do believe the Exora has some electronic issues. There is a rather significant lag when you change gear and when you apply the throttle. The engine also sometimes shuts down abruptly just after you start it. Don’t worry this has never happened in the middle of a drive. Only as soon as you start the engine. When I dove the 2017 Persona there was a bit of lag, but the one in the Exora is bad. When I spoke to the owner, it seemed as if this was a common problem with the Exora. According to other Exora owners online, this could be sorted out at Proton Service Centres. Let’s test it our ourselves. If you do have an Exora Bold, you’re not alone if you are experiencing issues with the electronics. I’ll include an update in this post if the owner gets it fixed.

The Exora Bold does come with an autocruise function that takes some getting used to. It has a reverse camera and the screen pops up on your rear view mirror. I thought that was neat. I didn’t manage to get a picture, so here’s a picture from the Proton Car Virtual Showroom.

Some Features

The turbocharger. The intercooler is a front-mount unit positioned at the front bottom left corner of the car. Should be better cooling than, say a Mitsubishi Airtrek Turbo.

The Exora Bold comes equipped with Cruise Control. Handy for long haul drives.

7 Seats. The last row of seats is still considerably confortable. They fold flat to give you massive boot space.

All round disc brakes and sport rims.

An entertainment system that uses DVDs and USB. These are dying out since we started getting the majority of our entertainment from smart phones.

I think the headlights are smoked too. And you get fog lights.

Clarion sound system with Bluetooth connectivity.

See the “S.AUTO” button? That is to activate the step auto mode which is no longer present in newer Proton cars with CVT.

Averaging 9.8 L/100km with my almost civilised driving behaviour.

Brought to you by Gran Turismo.

Conclusion

If I needed to carry more people around, I might consider the Exora. If I could sleep comfortably in the back, this could be a very convenient car for long hauls and photography trips where I plan to do loads of time lapse shots and sleep in the car. But get the electronics fixed, it’s annoying and potentially dangerous. This is why I prefer my cars to be more mechanical than electrical. If you can tolerate standard Proton car issues like I can (dash/steering rattle, noise, creaks, but really good air conditioning), the Exora is not bad. Other options for a 7 seater minvan would be what? A Grand Livina, an Odyssey, a Stream, or a Wish? Of course they come with a different price tag. If I could get my hands on those maybe we could do some comparison for this class of cars.

DRIVEN: Proton Exora Bold Turbo first impressions

It’s the hottest model of the moment, and the most talked about for sure. It’s also the first recipient of Proton’s long awaited turbocharged engine, the Campro Charged Fuel Efficiency (CFE). It’s the refreshed Exora, the Exora Bold.
After countless sightings, both clothed and naked, Proton finally officially unveiled the Exora Bold and the range topping Exora Prime last Thursday. With an aggressive facelift and a new powertrain that’s so much more appealing on paper, the Exora is making a strong case to be the best MPV under RM100k.
We’ve driven it already – first impressions and full gallery after the jump.

Here’s a refresher on how the refreshed MPV stacks up. The Exora Bold wears a new face that’s well, bolder and more aggressive, mainly due to the “fanged” lower bumper. The headlamps have darkened housings and the elaborate rear lights have a “tinted” look as well.
There’s a subtle bodykit, including a rear diffuser style piece (painted black) and larger 16-inch wheels. The latter plays a big part in the sportier image and its double-spoke design is much better than the plain old one. I quite like this new Elegant Brown hue, too. It looks rather handsome for a big box, and quite premium relative to price point rivals.
Kit-wise, the Premium CVT is well stocked. Two-tone leather seats with matching door cards, leather-wrapped steering, fog lamps, electric foldable wing mirrors, cruise control and reverse camera with rearview mirror LCD are standard. The latter is useful and similar to the system seen in the Kia Forte 6-Speed. The centre stack, which houses a Clarion head unit with Bluetooth and AUX, is finished with “liquid silver” trim. Wood is reserved for the six-seater Prime.
As usual for the Exora, there’s an overhead DVD player (also accepts USB and SD cards) with flip out LCD screen and roof air con vents for every row. A/C fan speed for the rear section can be independently controlled.
The highlight is of course the CFE engine, which is the latest iteration of Proton’s Campro. Following the downsizing method of a forced-fed smaller capacity engine in place of a say, 2.0L NA unit, the CFE puts out 138 hp and 205 Nm, healthy figures by any measure. By the way, CFE did not start life as a Campro CPS, but is massively reworked from the original Campro engine.
Besides the soft turbocharger (0.75 bar), there’s intake VVT (first in the Campro series, not to be confused with CPS, which is more of a valve lift system) and a “torque-based” 32-bit ECU unique to the CFE. On a whole, engineers say that 70% of engine components are new and unique to the CFE. On the spec sheet, you’ll notice a shorter stroke and lower compression ratio (8.9 instead of 10). Look at the diagram for the rest of the changes.

Paired to the Punch sourced continuously variable transmission (CVT), 0-100 km/h is done in 11.3 seconds, not 13.3 seconds as previously thought. We now have a hard copy of the brochure, which lists the faster time. The 13.3 figure came from the leaked scan sent to us by a reader, which is an older and not-finalised version of the brochure. Quoted top speed is 185 km/h and fuel consumption at a constant 90 km/h is 7.8 litres per 100 km.
By the way, the CVT unit used here is not identical to the one used in the Saga FLX. The one here (internal code CVT3) comes with a higher torque rating (220 Nm instead of 186 Nm) and the oil cooler is also more powerful (12.5 kW instead of 10 kW) to cope with the higher load. Also, Proton will only use the original CVT fluid (ExxonMobil EZL799) to maximise reliability.

Turbocharged CFE does not have the CPS system, but comes with intake VVT
The CFE + CVT drivetrain completely transforms the Exora experience. Proton’s first full MPV was a good drive all along, bringing a more sophisticated level of ride and handling to the affordable MPV sector. It is also family friendly, comes with more space than price rivals and has all the features one expects for the money. However one major “could be better” point for us was the strength of the Campro CPS mill, or rather the lack of.
You see, the 1.6-litre CPS is the sort of motor that requires “spanking” to get the best out of it, coming alive in the higher regions of the tacho. This isn’t a bad thing in itself, and there’s a certain pleasure to be had in coaxing out the performance, but an MPV isn’t the best vehicle for such histrionics. It is the lack of low end torque that gave rise to the impression of the Exora being “underpowered.”

110 km/h is done at a relaxed 2,400 rpm; toggling the trip computer is a hassle
Enter the turbocharged CFE. With peak torque of 205 Nm coming into play at 2,000 rpm and staying there all the way to 4,000 rpm, the previously lethargic approach has been banished for good. Combined with the instantaneous rise in revs brought by the CVT, the Bold is quick off the line and response is good. The CFE isn’t as smooth revving as the 1.6L Prince engine found in Peugeots and MINIs, but it’s not particularly coarse as well, so all’s good.
Usual CVT rules apply, so when one’s in a hurry, there’s a lot of groan and moan from the engine. But there’s a Stepped Automatic Transmission (SAT) button that causes the ‘box to emulate a six-speed conventional torque converter AT. Press it and you do feel the revs fall back “for the next gear,” but the “gearchanges” are blunt and slow.

With SAT activated, the CVT will try to emulate a torque converter auto ‘box
We first encountered the AT-mimicking CVT in the facelifted Corolla Altis, and Toyota’s rendition remains more convincing. Otherwise, the Punch CVT works decently enough, even if it falls short of Nissan’s CVTs for cohesiveness. Personally, I’m not a fan of CVT, but Proton picked it for efficiency, and you can’t argue with that.
There is another function that eluded most of us journos, the “L” function. Pushing the lever down from D to L is sort of like activating a “Sport Mode”, where the revs rise by about 1,000 rpm with the same throttle opening, giving more sense of urgency along with some added noise. However, I found the physical shift action from D to L a little sticky. Small matter, that.
Drive-wise, the Exora rides well despite the wheel upsize to 16 inches. It showed a steady high speed highway ride and good composure on the poorly surfaced B roads that made up a big portion of our route to Tanjung Jara on the East Coast. Unlike some rivals, there’s no hopping around at the rear, and even the few big potholes we hit met with adequate damping.
Steering precision and feel were a little short of Proton’s usual standards, but just about acceptable for an MPV. However, they could have done better than the GT Radial Champiro tyres on our test car. A tyre swap will be a good investment.
From the driver’s seat, the view out is superb, thanks to the generous glass areas (passengers will enjoy this too) and the new reverse camera with rear view camera display is very useful. I also liked the feel of the chunky leather wrapped steering wheel and the individual fold down arm rest for the front seats.
One inconvenience is the process of jogging the info (range, average FC, etc) on the trip computer. There’s just a single button, so you press it till “ODO” shows on the right display, before doing a long press to switch data on the left display. Quite hard to fully concentrate on the road ahead when doing this.
As a middle row passenger, I was thankful for my personal air con vent (rear section fan speed is independently controlled) and the ability to catch a movie (I didn’t), but felt that the bench was a little short and flat.
With the addition of a turbocharged engine and more kit, it’s easier to forget that the Exora Bold is not a rival to the Mazda 5, Honda Stream, Peugeot 5008 and gang, but an RM80k MPV that fights cars like the Toyota Avanza and Nissan Grand Livina. The Proton is a more sophisticated and well-rounded product than those two – it drives better, has a lot more go, has more space and more kit. If a foreign badge is not a must have, this is the best MPV below RM100k one can buy in Malaysia.
